How to Keep Your Bible Insert-Free

Is your Bible bulging at the seams, stuffed with pens, highlighters, bulletins, or notebook paper? If so, you’re putting your Bible at risk of serious spine damage. Whenever an item is placed within the pages of your Bible, even something as thin as a church bulletin, the spine is forced to expand, making room for the added object. Eventually this expansion will weaken the threads used to bind your Bible, resulting in pages coming loose—something none of us want. That’s why the number one way to prevent spine damage is to keep your Bible insert-free. But what are you supposed to do with those pens and papers that normally live inside your Bible’s pages? We have two suggestions:

STORE ITEMS IN CASES AND FOLDERS

If you’re someone who uses different pens and highlighters when studying the Bible, a pen case is the accessory you need for storing and traveling with your writing tools. And if you’re someone who likes to save or take notes on church bulletins, then consider dedicating a single folder to preserve your collection at home.

CLIP YOUR PEN

Maybe you only need one pen, and carrying a pen case to church feels cumbersome. That’s where our second suggestion comes in: rather than storing your pen inside your Bible, clip the pen to your Bible’s cover, with the barrel resting on the exterior of the cover. This is a great way to travel with a Bible and pen for short periods of time, but we don’t recommend leaving a pen clipped for multiple days, as it might leave an indentation on the cover’s edge. So just unclip the pen whenever you’re not on the go!
