Why We’re No Longer Paul’s Leather Co.

How We Got Here

Calling ourselves a “leather company” has always been a bit misleading. It’s not who we are. Our passion isn’t leather. It’s Scripture. Our aim isn’t to fill the world with more leather. Our aim is to see the world filled with men, women, and children who treasure God’s Word.

When we decided we needed a name that better represented us, we kept thinking about Sola Scriptura—the belief that God’s Word is enough for God’s people. Before Sola Scriptura became a common conviction, most Christians didn’t have access to the Bible. Rather than reading God’s Word for themselves, they relied on priests and clergy to interpret Scripture for them. Unlike us, they didn’t own personal copies of the Bible. But when they started to embrace the sufficiency of Scripture, it opened the door to something radical—the translation and distribution of Bibles for everyone.

As we prepared for our second decade of crafting and restoring Bibles, we wanted a name that honored the way Sola Scriptura made Scripture available for all. A name that connected us to the men and women who lived—and sometimes died—in order to make God’s Word available to God’s people.

For us, Scriptura isn’t just a new name—it’s a renewed purpose. We believe everyone should have a Bible they can treasure for a lifetime. And we believe all people deserve a Bible translated into their language. Scriptura reminds us of those who made it possible to treasure a personal copy of Scripture, while inspiring us to help those who still need a translation of God's Word. We’re excited to do more of both as we enter this next chapter of ministry.
